NORTH HAVERHILL — On Wednesday, after a last-minute bid to suspend his 30-day jail sentence handed down three years ago, ex-state Sen. Jeff Woodburn was transported to the Coos County House of Corrections. A 6-year court process — which involved nine Class A misdemeanor charges filed by the New Hampshire Attorney General’s office in 2018, jury acquittals in 2021 on five charges, New Hampshire Supreme Court reversals of two convictions for simple assault and domestic violence, and prosecutor dismissals of those charges after a second trial in 2024 resulted in a hung jury — culminated with an imposition of sentencing hearing for two criminal mischief convictions at Grafton Superior Court. All of the charges relate to actions that prosecutors said Woodburn had taken against his ex-fiancee, Emily Jacobs, 42, when she lived in Jefferson.
