The marathon community is mourning the loss of Robert Kennedy, a long-time Boston Marathon runner from Durham, New Hampshire. Newington police said crews responded to a bicycle accident on Little Bay Road on Saturday around 10 a.m. Authorities said Kennedy was traveling with a group of cyclists during the “Bikes and Beers” cycling event when he lost control and fell to the ground. Police said Kennedy suffered a serious head injury and was transported to the hospital. Authorities said he passed away later that day. In his lifetime, Kennedy completed 19 Boston Marathons. At 76, he was one of New Hampshire’s oldest Boston Marathon runners. His long-term efforts raised more than $300,000 for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. In addition, Kennedy completed marathons in all 50 states, three times over. Police said they are investigating the accident, and anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Brian Whyte at 603-431-5461.
