BERKSHIRE, Vt. — Federal agents detained eight farmworkers at Vermont’s largest dairy farm Monday in what advocates are calling one of the state’s largest immigration enforcement actions in recent history. According to Migrant Justice, U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents entered Pleasant Valley Farm in Berkshire, Franklin County, and arrested eight workers. The individuals are currently being held at the Northwest State Correctional Facility. The family said they were unaware of the reason for the detainments and were cooperating with federal authorities. Vermont’s Agency of Agriculture estimates between 750 and 850 year-round migrant workers are employed in the state’s farming sector.
