CRAWFORD’S PURCHASE — A 29-year-old hiker was rescued Saturday afternoon after falling and injuring himself while hiking in treacherous conditions near Mt. Clay. William Tessier from Carignan, Quebec, slipped on icy terrain along the Jewell Trail and fell several feet off the path, striking an object. The incident occurred around 3:45 p.m., and Tessier called 911 for help. New Hampshire Fish and Game contacted the Cog Railway for assistance, which provided rescuers a train ride to the Skyline intersection, saving them nearly three miles of hiking in rain and icy winds. Despite the tough conditions, the rescue team, made up of 20 volunteers, managed to reach the train by 10:15 p.m. Tessier was transported to the Base Station and later transferred to a Twin Mountain Ambulance, which took him to Littleton Regional Healthcare for further treatment.
