WHITEFIELD — The Select Board on Monday took a step toward hiring a town administrator, tentatively agreeing to post the position pending approval of a job description. No hiring timeline was set, and the position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found. It will be posted internally first and advertised externally if necessary. The town administrator would help ease the workload of the three-member Select Board and the four-person municipal office staff. Board members said the town’s growing responsibilities — including grant-funded projects, housing development, population growth, and emergency response — have become too much for the current structure to manage.
